The Elders of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, have met the Governor of the state, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, in closed doors over peace. The meeting is not unconnected with the move by some lawmakers in the State House of Assembly to impeach the governor of the state, which led to the burning of the hallowed chambers of the assembly.

The persons at the meeting include Elder Ferdinand Alabaraba, Leader of PDP Elders Forum, Chief Sergeant Awuse, the Chairman of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, OCJ Okocha, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and Bro Felix Obuah, the Campaign Director of PDP/Fubara for the 2023 election.

The meeting was held at the residence of the governor in Government House, Port Harcourt.Although, the purpose of the meeting was not disclosed, but a source said the elders were in Government House to intervene in the ensuing crisis in the state. The source, who did not want his name mentioned, said the elders had pleaded with Fubara to shelve further action while the team consulted all parties involved to bring in peace.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers State, has called on both the legislative and executive arms of government in the state to exercise restraint in the ongoing impasse between them.

PDP in a statement by the state chairman, Desmond Akawor, and secretary, Benebo George, said it was not unaware of the impasse between the two arms of government, but expressed confidence that the situation would be cordially handled.

According to the statement, the party is consulting with various stakeholders and other notable personalities in the state with a view to resolving the situation at stake.

It expressed optimism that the conflict, which is a family affair, would be resolved amicably at the end of the day.

The Rivers State Police Command in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe Koko, said that the command was on top of the security situations that occurred at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex.

Koko said a full-scale investigation has been launched to unravel the circumstances surrounding the situations and take immediate policing actions against anyone found wanting.

The Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Joseph Johnson, said If the story to impeach the governor is anything to go by, “there is no relationship; it is human beings that are impeached and not the building
