The former Ogun State Chairman of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria, Nurudeen Alowonle, has taken legal action against Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Sina Ogungbade (SAN), and the incumbent union chairman, Taofeek Sokoya, also known as Danku.
Alowonle is urging the National Industrial Court in Ibadan to declare the swearing-in of Sokoya as the new state chairman of the union null and void.
Alowonle contends that he never relinquished his office but merely took a leave of absence from August 5 to December 4, during which his vice chairman acted on his behalf.
Upon the expiration of his leave, he expected to resume his chairmanship position to complete his second term
However, he claims that his return was obstructed by the alleged unlawful swearing-in of Sokoya as the new chairman.
According to Alowonle, Sokoya’s installation was facilitated with the backing of Governor Abiodun, the Attorney-General, and the Commissioner for Transportation, who serve as regulatory authorities for the union.
Among his demands, Alowonle has requested the industrial court to declare that the swearing-in of Sokoya, who held no executive position within AMORAN, was invalid, illegal, null, and void, as per Sections 10 and 11 of the association’s constitution.
He also argued that at the time of his installation, Sokoya did not hold any executive office recognised under Section 14 of the AMORAN constitution.
Furthermore, he asserted that the chairmanship position was not vacant at the time of Sokoya’s swearing-in by the Commissioner for Transportation.
