He attended All Saints Anglican School in Oke-Onigbin and Provincial Secondary School in Ilorin before proceeding to Barewa College, Zaria (1962–1963).

He later studied at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1964–1967), and the University of Ghana, Legon (1967–1969).

His tenure was cut short by the military coup of 31 December 1983 led by Major General Muhammadu Buhari.

In 1999, Adebayo was appointed Minister of Communications under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, where he contributed to key reforms in the telecoms sector.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by the family.
