Final year student dumps own newborn baby in Nasarawa bush

A new-born baby girl has been found alive after being abandoned in a bush in Akwanga town of Nasarawa State.

The baby was rescued by residents on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, near Hope Academy Primary School in the A. A. Koto area.

Police said the baby’s mother, a final-year NCE student of the College of Education, Akwanga, allegedly dumped the child.

She was later arrested with the assistance of her friends and schoolmates.

No further details have been provided as to why the lady carried out the act.

Dumping of new-born babies is a growing trend among young people.

The lady identified as Maryam Atiku wrapped three pieces of cloth around the baby’s neck, covered her mouth, and carried her to Malam Yaro bush.
