FELICITATIONS TO MAZI AFAM JOSIAH OSIGWE SAN, ON HIS EMERGENCE AS THE 32ND NBA PRESIDENT-ELECT

0

We, the executives and members of the Oyigbo Lawyers Forum (OLF), heartily extend our warm felicitations to you, Mazi Afam Josiah Osigwe SAN, on your welldeserved victory in the just concluded NBA General Elections and your emergence as the next NBA President-Elect.

Your commitment and leadership over the years as a consummate Bar Man and your enviable track records of innovation and excellence in your various roles in service of the Bar, will undoubtedly serve the efforts to build a stronger Bar, capable of tackling the many daunting challenges facing the Bar at this time.

Oyigbo is one out of the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State, sharing a common boundary with Abia State. It is a well urbanized area with many industrial, commercial and corporate activities going on within. It is a place inhabited by persons of diverse origins apart from its own indigenes. By the 2006 census, the Oyigbo Local Government Area is estimated to have a population of about 200,000 people.

The Oyigbo Lawyer’s Forum is currently comprised of more than 150 lawyers living and practicing within the Oyigbo cosmopolitan metropolis, in the Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State. At the moment, the various courts are sited in the Oyigbo Local Government Area, to wit; Rivers State High Court, Oyigbo Judicial Division, Rivers State Magistrate’s Court, Oyigbo Magisterial District, Rivers State Magistrate’s Court, Umuagbai Magisterial District, Rivers State Customary Court, Oyigbo Customary District and the Rivers State Customary Court, Mgboji Customary District. That expressly means that Oyigbo has 5 (five) courts within its jurisdiction.

Additionally, Oyigbo presently has 5 Police formations, to wit: Oyigbo Area Command Headquarters, Oyigbo Divisional Police Headquarters, Afam Police Station, 2 NPF Hawk Special Forces; and even a Military Station. In summary, the Oyigbo metropolis currently has 5 courts, 5 police formations and a military station within its jurisdiction attending to the needs of its vast population.

It is rather unfortunate that an area so blessed with diverse tribes with rich multicultural value systems, overwhelming presence of lawyers as well as judicial creations and facilities up till now has not been able to achieve its golden dream of metamorphosing into a Bar Branch. Regrettably, most Lawyers from this jurisdiction for sake of proximity to a nearby Bar branch, are constrained to register as Nigerian Bar Association members in another state. Consequently, lawyers in Oyigbo find themselves travelling inter- state to engage in Bar activities and exercises.

Hence, we urge our proactive President-elect and the incoming National Executives of the Nigerian Bar Association to assist us in creating a branch for Oyigbo.

As a Forum, we humbly pledge our support, solidarity and cooperation in helping you and the national executive achieve our shared dreams and set goals for the Nigerian Bar. We trust in your resolve and ability to steer the Bar to greener pastures.

We also cordially felicitate with the entire NBA National Executives-elect, viz:

1. Sebastine Anyia-1st Vice-President

2. Mrs. Bolatumi Olasunbo Animashaun – 2nd Vice President

3. Mrs. Zainab Aminu Garba 3rd Vice-President

4. Dr. Mobolaji Idris Ojibara – General Secretary

5. Mr. Henry Barnabas Ehi – Assistant General Secretary

6. Mrs. Blessing Imo Udofa-Poromon – Treasurer

7. Mr. Nyada Auta – Welfare Secretary

8. Mrs. Bridget ljeoma Edokwe – Publicity Secretary

9. Miss. Ebiere Emmanuella Ekpese – Assistant Publicity Secretary

Congratulations. We remain, AFAMATIVE!!!
