Sunday, March 9, 2025 will remain indelible in the memory of Barrister (Mrs.) Ify Uzokwe, because it was the day which she was honoured with an Award of Merit in recognition of her selfless services to her Church family and to humanity.
Fondly known as Nwanyi Maria Ibeya, the awardee (who has served as a past Treasurer of the Lagos chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA) was presented with the award by the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, His Grace, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, in conjunction with the Lagos Archdiocese Laity Council (which had nominated her for the honour).
NEWSWIRE Law Events magazine correspondent in Lagos reports that the event, which took place at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Abule-Ado, the FESTAC Deneary, was graced by the awardee’s family, friends and associates, as well as congregants – among them Chief Annie Uzokwe (Ogbuefi Ezeamalu); Chief Mike Igweonu;
Chief Charles Egwu (Kpakpando Ozubulu); and
Chief I. K. Onyechie. Others were the members of the Ozubulu Diamond Sisters Initiative; Umuokpu Amakwa, (Lagos Forum); the
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church; Ozubulu CWO; and the Women of Like Minds for God.
The presentation was preceded by the celebration of Holy Mass which commenced at 10.00 am.
It was a grand occasion indeed, as it brought together Barrister Uzokwe’s aforementioned kith and kin, as well as friends and well-wishers from far and near in celebration, not just of the honour bestowed on her, but also of her life-journey – especially her professional and social accomplishments, both within and outside the Church.
At various times, Barr. Uzokwe has served as the Vice-Chairperson of the Church’s Harvest Holy Family (2024); President, Women’s Wing of the Ozubulu Development Union (Lagos Branch); President of the Ozubulu Diamond Sisters Initiative; President of Women of Like Minds 4 God; and President of Umuokpu Amakwa (Lagos Forum). She is presently serving as the Vice-Chairperson of the NACL (Festac Branch).
Attendees at the event were unanimous in agreeing that the award was well-deserved, considering the dedication, hard work, and selflessness Barr. (Mrs.) Uzokwe has demonstrated over the years in carrying out the various duties assigned to her, as well as in her dealings with others.
