A former Director-General of the Senator Uba Sani Campaign Council during the 2023 general election, and former Kaduna Information Commissioner, Muhammad Sani Bello, popularly known as Mainan Zazzau, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress and joined the African Democratic Congress.

Bello announced his resignation in a letter dated January 7, 2026, addressed to the chairman of the APC in Dogarawa Ward, Kaduna State.

In the letter, Bello said, “This is to let you know of my decision to withdraw my membership of the APC with immediate effect.”

He also expressed appreciation to the party for the period of his membership, stating, “I wish to place on record my appreciation for the mutually beneficial relationship that we have shared during my membership of the party.”

Bello, an ally of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, served as Director-General of Uba Sani’s campaign during the 2023 governorship election and was, until recently, the Commissioner for Information in Kaduna State.

Following his defection, Bello has been appointed a member of the African Democratic Congress Constitution Review Committee, as the opposition party intensifies preparations ahead of the 2027 general election.

Recall that Bello had previously moved to the APC in 2018 after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, where he had been a governorship aspirant in Kaduna State.

At the time, he announced his decision to join the APC at a news conference in Kaduna, explaining that he had consulted widely with different political parties before making his choice.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Bello had dumped the PDP on November 12, citing what he described as persistent mistrust between him and the state leadership of the party, as well as its governorship candidate, Isa Ashiru.
