Ex-Governor, investigated by EFCC for stealing State Funds has Donated N200 Million For Sallah

It was reported that a former Nigerian state governor, who was accused of stealing public funds, while he was in office has donated millions of naira to residents of his state for Sallah celebration.

It was reported that former governor Bello Matawalle, who lost his second term bid as Zamfara State governor, and left office on the 29th of May, is being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for allegedly stealing billions of naira of state funds while he was in office and apart from this graft allegations, his administration also failed to pay workers’ salaries for three months.

The state’s Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tukur Danfulani, in a statement said that the former governor, donated the sum of N200 million to his supporters in the state for Sallah celebrations.

He alleged that the beneficiaries of the money included party members, stakeholders, women, youth groups and organisations in the state.Danfulani, who happens to be the chairman of the distribution committee, said that the other beneficiaries of this support, were the orphans, the less privileged, Islamic scholars, media practitioners, and social media influencers and handlers that are residing in the state.

He said, “The gesture is aimed at assisting people to celebrate the upcoming 2023 Eid-el-Kabir festival with ease.The committee had already started the distribution of the money to all the beneficiaries.”
