The EEDC has over the years applied different terms to overbill electricity consumers at every slightest opportunity.

From metering to generation and distribution of energy, the consumers are at the mercy of energy distributors nationwide.

While consumers of energy in many parts of the south east with the EEDC as it’s provider has never had a good relationship which should naturally exist between a provider and the user or buyer.

The buyer mounts poles, buy the conductor wires and cue behind bars in the office of the provider for inspection and connection.

The buyer pays staff of the EEDC who will be assigned to connect a facility and pays the company inspection fee.

When the materials are finally installed you are warned that they are the properties of the provider and you must not tamper with them.

Whether you contributed at community level, street, family or individuals. The transformer, meters, wires, conductors etc you bought belongs to the provider.

Then comes the billing!

Estimated or metering, you are paying for energy the cost more than the house rent of where you are living.

If you live in a low density, you are captured into Band A. If you are in a middle income area, you are in Band B… until Band C, the area they will never alot meters but visit them with outrageous estimates and charges for unavoidable by pass.

This unwarranted hardship posed great danger on the people and drain the scarce available resources with serious psychological damage.

The governor of Enugu state stepped in and took a bold step to reverse the trend through the Enugu Electricity Regulation Commission EERC to rescue it’s citizens from the monopoly of EEDC.

In taking over,he cancelled Band B and C and united all users in one charge less than the B and C.

And the EEDC has not gone to sleep. They have reached out to their group in the other regions to frustrate the governor’s decision to reduce the charge. To them, the governor is squizing their choke hold on their victims… the helpless energy consumers.

The strategy is management by objectives.

When you enlarge your market scope and reduce cost, you will attract average patronage and never a loss.

If you restrict the scope of the market to favour a privileged few, the greater unprivileged numbers will opt out and your record will fall below average.

Having reviewed this situation, the governor after a notice which was well publicized, slatched the cost of energy from the first of August this year.

A 5,000 naira recharge which gets a token of 22.22 and 10,000 naira for 44.44 which lasts for between two days and five days in homes without air-conditioning points.

After August 1st, the token increased from 22.22 and 44.44 to 38 and 66 flat for all consumers.

And this has lasted between 6 and 13 days depending on how one controls consumption in their homes.

Consequently, our former providers are trotting from one slave masters to the other in different zones to force our governor to revert the reduction but they will fail.

Our governor knows what his people are passing through already in the face of economic downturn and will resist every attempt to yield to their blackmail.

We stand with a governor that stands with his people.

This is the fastest two years first tenure governor ever in the history of this country in adherence to good governance indices, development and steadfastness in principles, management and direction.

When his entry vision and mission with captured in tomorrow is here, many assumptions were cast on the catchphrase, but everyone everywhere in and around the southeast and Nigeria as a whole has seen and agreed that our “tomorrow is here”
