The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti, Gbenga Aribisala, has stated that the university will prioritise competence in its staff recruitment, which is expected to take place soon.
The VC spoke at Ikoyi Ekiti in the Ikole Local Government area of Ekiti during a reception in his honour on Sunday, hosted by the 26 communities in the council area, to celebrate his appointment as the pioneer chief executive of the new federal university and pledge their support for his success in the institution.
Aribisala said, “This is a federal university, we will follow the principles of federal character. We will embrace excellence to bring about the needed brain that will train and secure a good future for the society, especially the next generation.”
While dismissing rumour that the university had begun staff recruitment, the VC clarified that both academic and non-academic activities would begin immediately the National Universities Commission approved the necessary courses of study.
He disclosed that the university would release an advert for graduates to apply for job opportunities before the end of September, adding, “Our people need to be patient.
“There is no way the university can recruit without necessary approvals from the relevant authorities. At present, we have not accessed funds, much more recruit staff.
“Only experienced hands would be first absorbed because we are relying on those who have something to offer for the university to rank among the best in the world within the shortest period, we have relevant experiences for meaningful take off, so there is no need to panic, the university would be recruiting yearly,” he said.
Aribisala said, “Since the day I was appointed as the VC, the university principal officers, including the registrar, bursar and the council members, have been working round the clock to ensure that the institution starts admission of students and also meets the global standard on education”.
The VC called on well-meaning individuals and private organisations to invest in university education, as he assured that once funds were released, work would start, and all would benefit from the goodies available in the university.
Aribisala lauded President Bola Tinubu for establishing FUTES and making him the pioneer VC, as well as the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, for the favourable support from the ministry to him and the university.
The VC thanked the 26 communities for the honour done to him as he promised to always accord the people, especially the traditional rulers, the needed support.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Obaloke of Igbona Ekiti, Oba Johnson Oladele, who said Aribisala was being celebrated as a prominent indigene in the local government area, urged the VC to protect the good name he had built for years through transparency.
Oba Oladele, who harped on unity among the 26 towns in the council area, urged the people to always work in unity and shun selfish interests, saying that the people should rise and support those aspiring to occupy positions of authority.
The Chairman of Ikole Local Government, Bayo Omojola, described the FUTES VC as a pride of the council area and expressed confidence in his ability to bring about meaningful academic development at the new university, which he said would be of tremendous benefit to the people of the local area.
