Eid-el-Fitr 2019: Egeonu Calls on Nigerian Lawyers to Imbibe Tolerance, Patriotism
On the occasion of the celebration of the Muslim festival of Eid-el-Fitr across Nigeria, I felicitate with the Muslim faithfuls and call on Nigerians, especially members of the legal profession to imbibe tolerance and patriotism.
Gloria Egeonu, a candidate for the position of Social Secretary in the June 2019 Lagos Branch Elections, in a statement released to Newswire Law and Events Magazine this morning said, “I felicitate with all Nigerians, the NBA, especially the Muslim Ummah, on the occasion of this year’s Eid el-Fitr, which marks the completion of the Ramadan fast”.
“I congratulate Muslims in Nigeria and around the world on the successful completion of this month-long spiritual journey of fasting, prayer and alms-giving in obedience to the Divine Command” she said.
In her charge to Muslims, called for tolerance and respect in the nation and in the legal profession irrespective of tribe, religion and political leanings, in the quest to build a strong and united nation and also a strong and united Nigerian Bar Association.
Speaking further, Egeonu said “Despite numerous challenges in the country, hope is not lost”. “Only tolerance stronger sense of patriotism and love for one another will help the country surmount her present socio-economic challenges”.
Her very important wording to learned seniors and colleagues (Christians and Muslims) of the NBA Lagos Branch as we countdown to the 2019 Lagos Bar Election, “I challenge members to evolve policies and attitude that would promote strong values, the Rule of Law, orientation and the nation’s economic prosperity. These will bring dignity to our Noble Profession.”
While stating her readiness to provide social platforms to encourage greater participation of members if elected as Social Secretary of the Premier Bar, Gloria Egeonu called on members to vote for a more dynamic social life as she looks forward to improving the Bar’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) profile, and also seek more support from members of the outside community, not just lawyers, in terms of free legal advice and support for Lagos Branch.
