ECOWAS Military Chiefs Meet Thursday, Friday Over Niger Coup

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is still considering all options in its efforts to restore democratic rule in Republic of Niger. The regional military chiefs have set Thursday and Friday to deliberate over the development in Accra, Ghana.

The German government has also joined calls for the immediate release of the outsed President Mohamed Bazoum.

An international news agency, Reuter, quoted a spokesperson for regional body announced this on Tuesday.

ECOWAS had suspended a key military meeting on the crisis in Niger scheduled on August 12 in Accra, Ghana.

It was learnt that the meeting was suspended indefinitely for “technical reasons”.

The meeting has now been scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Ghana
