Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, has lashed out at the US President, Donald Trump, for threatening to invade Nigeria with American military.
Prof Soyinka said that the comments of the US President was a testament of what he described as pre-set mindset, which ignores Nigeria’s complex security challenges.
The literary icon stated this on Friday in Makurdi after meeting with Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State.
“You don’t just open your mouth and say, ‘I’m coming to help you whether you like it or not.
“With poor, almost non-existent analysis, you say you are coming with ‘guns blazing. At least respect those finding solutions to this unacceptable situation,” Soyinka said.
According to the nonagenarian, governments must protect citizens, stressing that victims deserve respect.
Recall that Trump designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” on October 31 over alleged killings of Christians.
The US President thereafter threatened that he had asked the Defence Department to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria if the Nigerian government “continues to allow the killing of Christians”.
