The Delta State Law Students Association of Nigeria (DELSAN), an umbrella body representing law students of Delta State origin in Nigerian universities and the Nigerian Law School, is set to hold its inaugural Annual General Conference on Friday, November 4, 2022, at the David’s Events Centre, Off Anwai Road in Asaba, the state capital.
Billed as a flagship event in the Association’s calendar, the gathering, whose theme is ‘Towards a Brighter Future,’ will be graced by a distinguished cast of personalities within and beyond the legal ecosystem, and from within and beyond the shores of Delta State. Notable among them is the state’s Chief Judge, the Hon. Justice T. O. Diai, who will be the Special Guest of Honour at the occasion. One of the highlights of the event will be the formal launch of the Assocoation’s Journal (ie The DELSAN Law Journal: Essays in Honour of Justice T. O. Diai). The Journal contains a rich digest of highly engaging articles on a number of topical issues and trends in areas of legal interest such as Space, Oil and Gas, the Environment, Prison Reforms, and so forth. The publication also affords law students across the nation an opportunity to share their ideas and hone their legal writing skills.
According to a statement by the Association, made available to NEWSWIRE Law & Events Magazine, other luminaries expected at the Conference include the President of the Delta State Customary Court of Appeal, the Hon. Justice P.O. Elumeze; the immediate past President of the National Judicial Institute and retired Chief Judge of Delta State, the Hon. Justice Rosaline Bozimo, OFR; the Hon. Justice Flora Azinge; the Hon. Justice Ojugbana-Orishedere; and the Hon. Justice Onome Marshal-Umukoro, among other jurists. Other legal titans include the Attorney-General of Delta State, Hon. Isaiah Bozimo, FCIArb; the immediate past Attorney-General of the state, Dr Peter Mrakpor, SAN; and the Chief Whip of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Princess Pat Ajudua. Other top legal luminaries in the state expected at the maiden DELSAN Confab include Ekeme Owhovoriole, SAN; G. A. I. Mowah, Esq; the Clerk of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mrs Lyna Ocholor; the Chairperson of the Asaba Branch of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Hon. Stella-Marris Mejulu, and a host of others.
Among the key highlights at the Conference will be a Keynote Address by the Honourable Attorney-General of Delta State, as well as a career panel session by notable legal professionals in the state such as Hon. Ekeme Owhovoriole, SAN; G.A.I. Mowah, Esq.; Chairman of the NBA Asaba Branch, Precious Nwadimuya; and the Chairperson of FIDA Asaba Branch, Hon. Stella-Marris Mejulu. Other slated activities include an Awards Presentation Ceremony and a Talent Exhibition, among others.
The Conference will also witness the conferment of the Association’s revered Lifetime Achievement Award on the aforementioned immediate past President of the National Judicial Institute and a former Chief Judge of Delta State, the Hon. Justice Rosaline Bozimo OFR, and (posthumously) on the Hon. Justice Samuel Oseji, JSC (of blessed memory) for their sterling contributions to the Nigerian justice system.
A special award for Excellence in Law Reportage will also be conferred on NEWSWIRE Multimedia Limited (publishers of Nigeria’s foremost law events publication) which also doubles as the Media Partner for the Conference.
The statement disclosed that in the run-up to the Conference on Friday at 10.00 am, delegates are expected to arrive on Thursday, November 3, 2022.
