Hon. Justice Theresa.O. Diai, the Chief Judge of Delta State, has granted freedom to Michael Lucky, a 21-year-old robbery suspect who had been held in custody by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in Warri for five years
During her visit to the correctional facility in the Okere Community, Justice Diai ordered Lucky’s release.
She also cautioned him to abstain from criminal activities, saying, “This should serve as a warning for you to stop engaging in crime. If you are caught again, I will not intervene in your case.”
Upon being interviewed by journalists at the NCS, Lucky expressed his delight at his newfound freedom.
He stated that he was falsely accused of armed robbery in the Iyara area of Warri.
“They accused me of armed robbery, claiming that I robbed someone, which I have no knowledge of,” he said.
Lucky, who hails from Owhelogbe Community in Isoko, believes that his case will serve as a lesson to other young people.
“I have nothing more to say. I am filled with joy,” he added.
When reminded of the Chief Judge’s warning, he responded, “I have never engaged in such activities before. I have a job as a welder, and I will return to my workshop.”
