Court Remands Two For Shooting Customs Officers

The Federal High Court in Ibadan has ordered the remand of Waliu Oladeji and Lateef Odugbemi in custody for allegedly barricading the road and opening fire on Customs officers who were on duty in the Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Justice A.A. Okeke gave the remand order last week following the appearance of the defendants before the court to face charges bordering on obstructing Customs officers.According to the prosecution, the defendants committed the offence on May 22 at Tapa, Ibarapa North LGA of Oyo State.They were arraigned on four counts.

The prosecution alleged that they “conspired among yourselves to commit a felony, to wit: obstructing Customs officers who were duly engaged in the performance of their lawful duty imposed on them by the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 by barricading the road and shooting at Customs Officers which resulted in some Officers sustaining gunshot injuries and thereby committed an offence contrary to, and punishable under the section of the Criminal Code Act, Cap C38, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”

They, however, pleaded not guilty.

Justice Okeke adjourned the case till January 24
