Two men were on Wednesday brought before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing their employer’s goods valued at N6.3million.

The accused, James Nuhu, 37 and Simon Lekwot, 35, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, informed the court that the accused and two others, now at large, allegedly committed the offence on July 3 at M & A Aluminum Company, Kaduna.

According to the prosecutor, the accused stole 5 tonnes of iron rods valued at N3.5m, aluminum roofing sheets worth N2.5m and five bags of cement valued at N42, 500 belonging to their employer, Raymond Christopher.

He said that the defendants carted away the goods when they were told to deliver them to some customers.

“The company reported the matter to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for investigation and the defendants were trailed and arrested while they were about to sell the goods,” the prosecutor said.

Leo said that the offence contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 each and a surety each in like sum.

Emmanuel ordered that the sureties should reside within the jurisdiction of the court, provide proof of ownership of landed property, two passport-sized photographs and swear to an affidavit of means.

He adjourned the case until August 21, for hearing.
