The National Executive Council of the NBA (“NBA-NEC”) held an emergency meeting yesterday, the 17th day of March 2022, wherein it discussed pressing issues and reached resolutions bordering on the Association. Among the issues discussed are:
- 1. The NBA Remuneration Committee Report.
- 2. The NBA Electoral Committee Budget.
- 3. The Legal Practitioners’ Act (LPA) Amendment Bill
- 4. The Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) Rules 2020.
- 5. The Report from the NBA Special Investigator regarding the Raid on Justice Mary Odili’s residence by security Agents.
Sequel to the successful conduct of the said meeting, Chinyere Obasi, Esq., a former National Officer of the NBA who is also a current NEC member sent a goodwill message to the NBA President and all NEC members congratulating and extolling them on the exceptional work being done in fostering the growth of the Association.
Chinyere Obasi’s message is reproduced below:
“It is with great delight that I commend the NBA President and all members of the NEC for a successful meeting held yesterday.
The emergency nature of the meeting did not stop it from doing justice to key issues within the Association.
The discussions and resolutions therein are evident of the capabilities of the present NBA administration.
The pragmatic and proactive steps taken by the NBA in investigating the alleged invasion of Justice Mary Odili’s residence by security agents, the prompt approval of the ECNBA’s budget for ease of operation, the robust engagement with the AGF regarding the amendment of the LPA among other items on the meeting’s agenda are evident of why this administration deserves all the accolades and commendation it is getting and I will not fail to add my voice in this regard.
Going by the NEC meeting held yesterday, I have no reservations in my belief that the NBA is on the right path to claiming its rightful place in the nation’s democracy and I sincerely hope that we achieve same in no distant time.
I wish all members of NEC safe trip back to their various destinations. I equally enjoin them to take the message of progress from the center to their various branches and replicate same, so that together, we can all be proud of our dear Association.
Thank you and God bless”
Signed:
Chinyere Obasi, Esq.,
Former National Officer, NBA
