The Covington Police Department said they believe there may be many more victims of the man they cuffed and charged with child sex crimes Friday.
Ja’Marreous McKinnis was arrested and charged with rape of a child in Covington Friday. Covington Police Chief Donna Turner told FOX13 the victims identified him through his social media handle, “Bando.”
The investigation started late in 2024. Covington Police received a complaint regarding a sexual assault that took place within the city; investigators looked into the complaint and found at least five girls between the ages of twelve and fifteen across Tipton County who were victims.
Police said the victims identified the suspect, Ja’Marreous McKinnis from his social media nickname. An arrest warrant was issued for “Bando” at a home on Simonton Street in Covington, where police arrested McKinnis.
“We do know that victims are from other jurisdictions, so we don’t want a victim to feel like they have to travel in if they are away from Covington,” Chief Turner said. “Because it is over the phone, and so, whoever that is, you can contact someone you trust at your local agency. They will reach out and contact us because we can prosecute it in their jurisdictions and they do not have to go to Covington, somewhere they are not comfortable with.”
Chief Turner also said McKinnis is expected to be in court Tuesday.
