The company secretary of Ibeto group, Sir Barr. Agams KSJI has revealed that Chief Ibeto did Not approach EFCC to enter a plea bargain. Sir Agams was reacting to a publication and comment credited to the counsel to the EFCC, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN
It was gathered that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday asked the Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos to dismiss an appeal filed by the Chairman of Ibeto Energy Development Company, Cletus Ibeto, seeking to nullify the bench warrant issued against him by a Lagos State High Court.
According to Agams, Chief Dr. Cletus Ibeto CON never approached the anti graft agency to enter a plea bargain of any sort.
The Rejoinder signed by the Company Secretary and made available to BarristerNG reads in part “The attention of the Ibeto Group has been drawn to the malicious and vexatious publication, which is radically far from what transpired in the Court of Appeal Lagos division on the 15th day of January 2024
“We wish to put up this rejoinder for the general public to know exactly what happened in court and dispel the concocted and fabricated falsehood of calumny against Chief Dr. Cletus Ibeto CON.
“It is not correct that Chief Dr. Cletus Ibeto CON approached the anti graft agency seeking to enter a plea bargain.
“Ironically, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs, SAN and his co-travellers have agreed that the purported charge is trump up geared towards disparaging and tarnishing the image of a good and unblemished man by attempting to criminalise a pure and contractual civil transaction which is entirely outside the realm of crime.
“The correct position is that, Chief Dr. Cletus Ibeto CON in compliance with his statement at the EFCC over 3 years ago and subsisting judgment of the High Court of Rivers State, which reaffirm that the sum of N3,295, 000,000.00( Three billion, two hundred and ninety five million naira) being the sum received or the equivalent of the sum received for the failed land transaction be refunded and not the other way round just to malign and demean Chief Dr. Cletus Ibeto CON.
“We challenge, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs SAN to produce any shred of document for plea bargain as he alleged in the open court that stalled the hearing of the Appeal to the general public.
“We, therefore, wish to inform the general public that the three man panel led by Honourable Justice Muhammed Mustapha adjourned for both the interlocutory applications and substantive appeal on 7th day of May 2024,” he stated.
