Chief Arthur Obi Okafor, SAN: THE GIANT WITH A TENDER HEART
24th day of April, that’s when registration for the Criminal Justice Reforms Conference started. I woke up around 8:30am, did what I had to do and reached the conference centre some minutes to 10am.

I’m a stranger in Asaba. I was heading to the centre for the first time. So I stopped a tricycle and asked the rider to take me there. He took off. We rode passed Asaba Mall, Shoprite. Immediately after we passed the Police Headquarters, I started seeing people with conference bags and tags. Some of them were walking towards Shoprite and some were trying to catch cabs or tricycle.
With the amount of people I saw, even before I got to the venue, I said to myself, ‘I’ll only find an empty hall there.’ But I was wrong. I found people, densely scattered like Kano bazaar, trying to complete their registration.
There were about nine different desks for collection of conference materials.
There was a separate desk for on-site registration where one could instantly pay and get registered.
And there was a man who arrested and detained my attention.
He was mildly huge and engaging. He was busy addressing people’s complaints as he moved from desk to desk to make certain that everything was in order. His name is Chief Arthur Obi Okafor, SAN.
That’s my first time of seeing him in person. I walked to him and we greeted. He didn’t ask me my name. I didn’t tell him either. He, however, asked me about my trip. I replied him that it was fine.
After I finished my registration, I met a friend, Audu Master from Maiduguri branch. I told him about Arthur.
“He asks everyone same questions. He wants to make sure that everyone’s safe.” Audu Master replied.
I randomly talked with over twenty people, and all of them confirmed what Audu Master told me. The man is real.
In the evening of that day, I went to Asaba Mall, Shoprite to pick some things. I met some lawyers from Lagos and Ibadan branches. They reliably informed me that they’re glad to meet Chief Arthur Obi Okafor SAN and hear him speak. They informed me that they weren’t supporting him before. But from they way he welcomed them and assisted them with their registration, they know he’s too real to be fake.
Chief Arthur Obi Okafor, SAN is a thoroughly good person. He’s extraordinary. He has the mind and will that can bring everything the Bar could ever want.
Thank you for reading. My name is Sani Ammani. It pleases me to read, comforts me to write and delights me to talk. Stick with my posts and you’ll never be sad again.
