A Burlington woman was arrested after police found methamphetamine in her possession during a drug raid at a home on Tuesday.

Kelly Baker, 48, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine (serious misdemeanor).

At around 9:30 a.m., detectives with the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force (SEINT) conducted a search warrant at a residence on the 1100 block of N. 8th Street as part of an ongoing drug investigation, according to a criminal complaint.

During this raid, police found meth in a dresser drawer belonging to Baker, the complaint states.

Baker admitted to owning the dresser and clothing inside of it, but said she did not realize the meth was in the dresser, according to the complaint.

Baker was arrested and released from custody on Wednesday after posting a $1,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. June 27 at the Des Moines County Courthouse.

The Burlington Police Department, Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement all assisted with the raid.

“This operation is part of a broader effort to dismantle drug trafficking operations within the region and ensure the safety and well-being of the community,” the Burlington Police Department wrote in a press release.
