The Bauchi State High Court has concluded 51 criminal trials, securing the conviction of 64 individuals for offences ranging from armed robbery and kidnapping to rape, culpable homicide, conspiracy and fraud.
The Information Officer of the Bauchi State Judicial Service Commission, Saleh Umar, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, noting that the judgments were delivered in the last quarter of 2025.
He explained that the convictions were secured under applicable laws, including the Penal Code, the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, and the Bauchi State Penal Code, 2022.
According to Umar, two convicts; Muhammad Maina and Yakubu Adamu , were sentenced to death by hanging after the court found them guilty of armed robbery.
Seven others were handed life imprisonment without the option of fine for crimes such as rape, conspiracy, robbery, culpable homicide and kidnapping.
Those sentenced to life terms include Shehu Isa, Adamu Adamu, also known as Nalele, Mohammed Bello, Kabiru Ahmed, Muhammad Jibrin, alias Al-Amin, Usman Bello, known as Maigamo, and Manu Umaru, also called Alhaji Manu.
Also, eleven individuals convicted of fraud-related offences received three-month jail terms without the option of a fine. They are Abubakar Shehu, Yusuf Aliyu Alhassan, Miracle Chidi, Dominic Lazarus, James Myaulompwa, Lawus Zakka, Sadiq Dosumo, Jude Titus, Joseph Olamide Adesunmila, Koche Samuel and Falour Odinaka.
Other convicted persons were given prison terms ranging from three months to ten years, with some granted the option of fines between N10,000 and N500,000, depending on the gravity of their offences.
Umar said the rulings followed the completion of trials in which prosecutors presented evidence that proved the defendants’ guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
He added that the courts stressed the importance of firm punishments to serve as a deterrent, particularly against kidnapping, which they described as an ongoing security challenge in the state.
“The Bauchi State Judiciary remains resolute in its duty to ensure justice and to complement government efforts aimed at tackling crime and safeguarding the public,” the statement said.
