Bandits rampaging on the federal highways in Niger State have shot dead a bus driver and kidnapped eight passengers during an attack.

It was learnt that the bandits have contacted the relatives of the abductees and are demanding N17m in ransom.

The incident occurred last Saturday and has left motorists scared to pass through that axis described as prone to bandits’ attacks.

According to residents, the abducted victims were on their way for the installation of the chairman of kingmakers and chief priest of Bakarabonde in Borgu Kingdom.

The bandits were said to have set the bus conveying the passengers ablaze after they concluded their operation.

The Chairman of Borgu Local Government Area, Sulaiman Yerima, confirmed the attack, describing it as unfortunate.

The Niger Police Command spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, when contacted, said he had made contact with the Borgu Division and was awaiting their report on the incident.

“I am still awaiting a detailed report of the incident. When I get it I’ll contact you,” he said.
