Festus Keyamo, the newly appointed Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has reassured the public that his designation to lead the aviation ministry was a well-considered decision and not a mistake.

He expressed his intention to continue advancing the aviation roadmap initiated by the previous administration, demonstrating his resolve to enhance the sector’s growth and efficiency.

Taking up his responsibilities on Monday, August 21, in Abuja, Keyamo emphasized the strategic significance of his appointment, stating, “My selection by President Bola Tinubu was a deliberate choice. The President would have meticulously assessed the suitability before making the decision.”

In outlining his plans for the sector, Keyamo affirmed, “I have meticulously reviewed the 2016 roadmap. Our aim is not to dismantle successful initiatives, and if certain aspects require improvement, we will examine them thoroughly.”

He elaborated on his approach, mentioning, “While we might introduce additions to the roadmap, our intention is to retain its core structure. I understand that it resulted from a comprehensive roundtable in 2016, thus it was meticulously thought out and I appreciate the foundation it provides.”

Keyamo expressed his intention to engage in extensive briefings over the next few days to formulate proposals aimed at enhancing the sector. He also noted aspects within the roadmap that require refinement.

Transparency emerged as a central theme in Keyamo’s agenda, stating, “Transparency is paramount to me. We will ensure Nigerians are well-informed about our initiatives and progress, fostering inclusivity and minimizing past grievances. We are here to serve the Nigerian people, and all my actions reflect that.”

Addressing citizens’ concerns, he emphasized, “Our focus will shift from complex issues to everyday matters that affect every Nigerian. While people might not be familiar with our safety efforts, they will appreciate aspects they encounter daily, such as a clean environment and timely flights.”

He underlined the priority of people’s interests, saying, “Putting the people first is our guiding principle. I plan to commence briefings with directors and subsequently with agencies, starting tomorrow. The Permanent Secretary will facilitate the briefing schedule.”

Emmanuel Meribole, the permanent secretary, hailed Keyamo as a results-oriented individual with a deep understanding of the field. He emphasized that Keyamo’s appointment was not coincidental but rather divinely orchestrated. Meribole highlighted the ministry’s commitment to reshaping the aviation sector through the established roadmap, assuring that the ministry’s staff are dedicated to supporting the minister’s initiatives.

Additionally, he urged Keyamo to employ his comprehensive expertise to address litigation concerns within the ministry, highlighting the potential to leverage Keyamo’s knowledge for effective resolutions.
