APC rules out NEC meeting, says consultations ongoing

The ruling All Progressives Congress has ruled out any chances of rescheduling its postponed meetings of the national caucus and National Executive Committee until 2025.

The NEC and caucus meetings earlier scheduled for September 11 and 12, respectively in Abuja were called off by the party.

Although there was no reason for the indefinite suspension, the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Felix Morka, assured that a new date would be announced later.

The NEC and caucus meetings would have been the inaugural gathering of past leaders and party bigwigs since Dr Abdullahi Ganduje became the National Chairman of the APC.

However, concerns have been raised about when the ruling party plans to reschedule the NEC meeting three months after it was called off.

A party chieftain, who craved anonymity, described the indefinite postponement of the NEC meeting as an aberration.

“This is an aberration. Ganduje has not started well and he is setting a bad precedence. The president is also not making things easy. How can the ruling party keep calling off its National Caucus and NEC meeting as if they are nothing?

“Was it not the same NEC that ratified the election of the APC national chairman and his secretary,” he stated.

When contacted, the National Publicity Director of the APC, Bala Ibrahim told said that a new date had not been announced.

He said, “I have no idea when it will come up again until a new date is announced. The announcement we made was that it has been postponed till further notice. Of course, this year is out of it. Certainly, nothing can be done again this year.”

The National Deputy Organising Secretary of the APC, Nze Duru, also said the party would announce a new date after consultations are over.

“Discussions and consultations are continually going on. When the date is known, it will be announced that the party’s NEC will be held. Certainly not in this year 2024,” he stated.
