Alleged Sale of Govt Property: Okorocha’s Aides React

Political appointees of Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, have responded to the allegation by Imo State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that Governor Okorocha sold 71 government-owned vehicles illegally.

One of such reactions came from the Secretary to the Imo State government, SGI, Mark Uchendu, who said the government sold what he described as “unserviceable vehicles numbering 71, in 2018,” adding that “it also followed due process.”

In the same vein, the Commissioner for Finance, Ugochi Nnanna Okoro, said that claim by the PDP on the alleged withdrawal of N17 billion in three days by Okorocha was not true, adding that the party was only playing politics.

According to the SGI, “On the 23rd of November, 2018, we were able to agree on the disposal of unserviceable vehicles. A memo was sent to his excellency, Rochas Okorocha and he approved it and we engaged an auctioneer in December.

“These items were disposed of that December, January and February by the auctioneer we engaged. There was no sheddy deal in it. We also went ahead to publish it in a newspaper. I could not have manufactured it.”

Uchendu went further to say that he was worried that, “ a secretary of a party like the PDP will condescend to any level to tarnish the image of this government.”

Also commenting, the Finance Commissioner of Imo State, Ugochi Nnanna Okoro said: “Why I am afraid is that the PDP government will not sustain the free education programme of Governor Rochas Okorocha. The PDP doesn’t have the programme to sustain the free education.

“What they are busy talking about is that the government has withdrawn an amount of money and let me tell you nothing but the truth, this government did not withdraw such amount of money. How on earth will a government withdraw this kind of money in three days?

“All of us know that this is propaganda and it will not last. For how long will the PDP continue with this kind of falsehood? They should tell Imo people their programme. What do they have to offer the people in the area of education, infrastructure just like you have seen it in the Okorocha administration?

“Any governor that wants to succeed in Imo State like Okorocha has done must forfeit his N6 billion security votes. I want to ask, can PDP government do that?
