The Arewa Consultative Forum has called on President Bola Tinubu to prioritise building Nigeria and the crippled economy, as against the early campaign for his re-election in 2027 by the All Progressives Congress.

The ACF’s call comes amid growing concerns over the country’s direction and the government’s ability to address its challenges.

In May, during its national summit, the 22 APC governors, National Assembly leadership and the party endorsed Tinubu as the sole candidate of the party for the 2027 presidential election.

Also, the President is enjoying massive endorsement across party lines, with the wave of defections to the APC across the country, the latest being the defection of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno.

In its Sallah message made available to journalists by the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Prof Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the ACF, however, expressed concern over the country’s pressing challenges.

The forum expressed disappointment over the depreciation of the Naira and the rise in food prices, saying these issues should be the administration’s priority and not 2027.

It said, “We are dismayed by the current state of the economy and the suffering of Nigerians.

“We call on President Tinubu and his top aides to focus on improving the lives of Nigerians instead of campaigning for re-election in 2027, which is premature.”

The ACF cited the deteriorating security situation, rising cost of living, power shortages, and healthcare and education problems as key issues that required the administration’s attention.

The group’s secretary noted that despite the challenges, the APC was focusing on Tinubu’s 2027 campaign, which he described as “premature.”

The ACF urged Tinubu to focus on addressing the country’s problems rather than seeking re-election.

“Nigerians are suffering, and it’s time for the government to act,” Prof Muhammad-Baba said.

The group, however, congratulated Muslims on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir and wished them a joyous celebration despite the economic hardship.
