ACCIDENT UPDATE: CHAIRMAN NBA- IKOT-EKPENE BRANCH CALLS FOR SUPPORT FROM NBA NATIONAL, COMMENDS TOBENNA ERIOJIKWE, SECRETARY OF EBF AND OTHERS FOR VISITING AND SHOWING SUPPORT

    The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Ikot-Ekpene branch has provided further update on the unfortunate road crash involving members of the branch returning from the recently concluded NBA Annual General Conference in Abuja.

    Newswire had quickly reached out to the branch Chairman, Mr. Ukpong Okodi, who confirmed the incident at this point but was unsure what caused the accident.

    In a telephone interview with Newswire, the branch Chairman, Ukpong Okodi disclosed that the incident happened around Enugu, when the bus driver lost control of the vehicle supposedly due to brake failure resulting in the vehicle’s somersault.

    According to him, the injured victims, about seven members of the Association in the bus were taken and admitted at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu for treatment of various degrees of injuries sustained.

    The Chairman of the Ikot- Ekpene branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Mr. Ukpong Okodi confirmed this on Tuesday in a telephone interview with the correspondent of Newswire, Torty David, in Enugu, the state capital.
    “Seven persons were involved in the accident who sustained various degrees of injuries, four have been discharged so far and three were to undergo surgery,” he said.

    He further noted that of the seven admitted members, four have so far been discharged including the driver of the bus having responded positively to treatments and the remaining three of the members who are in critical condition, one out of the remaining three have successfully undergone surgery and the remaining two persons have been scheduled to undergo surgery also.

    He said some well-meaning Nigerians, individuals and various sister branches of the NBA have reached out to him, worthy of mention is the visit of the Chairman, Institute of Continuous Legal Education, Mr. Tobenna Erojikwe who visited and gave considerable support to the accident victims, he noted.

    The Branch Chairman appreciated all those who have reached out to him for their prayers and concern during these trying times, while also pleading and Calling for NBA National to come to their aid to ameliorate the burden of the huge financial cost on the branch and families of the victims, he concluded.
