The Nigerian Railway Corporation has appealed to the public to help identify any injured passengers it has not yet contacted from the recent Abuja–Kaduna derailment.
Managing Director of NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, said this in a statement on his X account on Thursday.
Dr. Opeifa expressed empathy for those impacted, refuting claims that the NRC downplayed the severity of the accident.
He said, “We truly empathise with everyone affected by the recent Abuja–Kaduna derailment.
“We never at any point downplayed the severity or suggested that people were not injured.
He stated that the corporation’s team has been personally contacting injured passengers to address their concerns.
“In fact, our team has been reaching out to the injured passengers personally, one after the other, to ensure their concerns are addressed.”
“If you are aware of any other affected individuals we have not yet contacted, please kindly share their details with us, and we will be glad to reach out to them as well,” Dr. Opeifa added.
According to reports the accident occurred on August 26, 2025, at approximately 11:09 a.m. between Kubwa and Asham stations on its way to Kaduna.
According to a statement from the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, six passengers were confirmed to sustain injuries.
