Dear Esteemed Colleagues,
On this Workers’ Day, we pause not just in celebration, but in deep reflection.
Today, we honour the dignity of labour. But beyond celebration, we must also confront the painful reality that many in our profession continue to endure unthinkable hardships. Across courtrooms, chambers, corporate offices, and public service, lawyers are stretched—facing long hours, mounting pressure, dwindling remuneration, and at times, outright neglect.
Yet, in the midst of it all, we rise. We continue to defend justice, give voice to the voiceless, and uphold the rule of law.
I also see possibilities untapped, opportunities for us to reinvent how we work, support each other, and grow collectively.
Together, we must begin to explore creative, sustainable solutions to our shared struggles. From embracing innovation and improving welfare systems to strengthening mentorship and advocating for better working conditions, I believe a better legal profession is not only possible, it is within reach.
This Workers’ Day, I urge us all: let us not be wearied by the weight of our challenges, but inspired by the potential for advancement .
Let’s work together. Let’s shape the future of our profession, one where every lawyer is valued, supported, and empowered.
In solidarity and service,
Abiye Tam-George, MBA, CGAN.
