Abia monarch, Eze Ofoegbu suspended for alleged insubordination

Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, the traditional ruler of Umudiawa autonomous community in Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, has been suspended for six months for alleged insubordination.

He was suspended by the leadership of Abia State Council of traditional rulers through a letter dated June 6, 2025.

Confirming the suspension to journalists on Saturday, the Chairman of Abia State Council of traditional rulers, Eze Linus Nto Mbah made it clear that Eze Ofoegbu was not suspended because of his support for President Bola Tinubu and Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, as being misconstrued by some publications.

“The suspension letter was not ambiguous. It reads in parts: ‘Our letter, dated 6th June 25, 2025, refers: Consequent upon your consistent and flagrant disregard to the instructions of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers’.

“So, let me reiterate that the letter that suspended him does not in any way suggest that it is because of his attitude or behaviour towards any political official, not even President Tinubu or Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, rather it is because of his disrespect to the Council’s instructions as regards to running a parallel association,” Mbah explained.

He urged Abia people and the entire South-East to disregard any malicious report about the suspension.

It would be recalled that the Abia State Council of traditional rulers in March 2025 disbanded all traditional rulers’ associations operating in parallel with the state traditional rulers body.

A media consultant to the suspended traditional ruler while replying to a message sent by DAILY POST on Saturday, confirmed the news of the suspension but promised to respond later.
