An Imo State-based group, the Concerned Orsu Professionals has raised a frantic alarm over the murderous wave of violence that has all but overwhelmed the inhabitants and communities of Orsu Local Government Area of the state.
In an open letter made available to Newswire Law and Events Magazine signed on behalf of the group by Chief (Dr.) Obidigbo Gabriel, the clan head of Mbanator Kingdom, and Prof. (Barrister) Nnanna Diala, the group’s international representative, and addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, the Concerned Orsu Professionals called attention to the current state of affairs in Orsu LGA, arising from the activities of one Engineer Mike Ahize and his group, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) also known as the Biafra Resistance Movement (BRM) – which, according to the letter, is no more than a cult of murderers, cannibals and ritualists.
Accusing the Ahize-led group of wanton murder, kidnapping, robbery, rape, cannibalism, extortion and arson, the Concerned Orsu Professionals said this cult had taken advantage of the peace-loving nature of a predominantly Christian populace to unleash mayhem among them, pointing to footage of its camps, now in the public domain, as evidence of its demonic and criminal nature. The authors of the letter decried the comatose state of activities at the headquarters of the Local Government Council at Awo-Idemili in the wake of this tragic state of affairs, a situation that has led to the dismissal of workers and also led the Chairman and councilors to flee the locality in fear for their lives. As if that was not enough, the letter adds, the LG Council buildings at Awo-Idemili have been razed to the ground by men disguised in the colours of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), though in reality they were members of Ahize’s cult.
The letter also listed a number of individuals whose homes have also been burnt by members of Ahize’s cult to include the Imo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief (Barrister) COC Akaolisa and his Labour counterpart, Prince Ford Ozurumba, as well as those of a state lawmaker, Hon. Ekene Nnodumele, Chief Cliff Mazi and others. The Akaolisa Family Compound was also set on fire by Ahize’s cult – also known as Umu Oma’ (Igbo for Fine Boys)
On a far more sinister note, the letter presents a long list of individuals sent to their untimely graves by Umu Oma to include the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Orsu, Mr. Ogochukwu Olebu and an unnamed security guard (who bodies were found headless). It went on to name victims of Umu Oma’s campaign of bloodshed in various communities across the LGA, namely, Amaruru, Orsu-Ihiteukwa, Ihitenansa, Ebenator, Umuhu Okabia, Okwuetiti, Okwuamaraihe, Okwufuruaku, and Eziawa.
Describing Engr. Mike Ahize as ‘the devil incarnate’, The Concerned Orsu Professionals allege that his group recruits young men on pain of death or exile if they refuse, and forces them to undergo a series of gruesome initiation rituals that involve Satanism, witchcraft and occultism. The group also extorts exorbitant ‘protection’ fees (ranging from N200,000 to N2m) from persons desirous of returning to their villages, or those wishing to conduct burial rites for their loved ones within the locality.
The letter acknowledged the efforts made by Gov. Hope Uzodimma to curb the activities of these merchants of death – notably his vocal and persistent agitation for the stationing of a military post in Awo-Idemili, even in the face of a vicious campaign against same by those who wished to use the death of a teenager who fell to a stray bullet during a battle between Umu Oma and security forces, and to pin responsibility for the tragedy on the person of the Attorney-General.
The authors threw their weight behind the Governor’s agitation by calling for a robust and combined security force capable of flushing the Umu Oma cultists out of Orsu, urging both President Buhari and Gov. Uzodimma to resist any form of pressure by the sponsors of this cult of blood to withdraw the army from Orsu LGA. They also called for the immediate apprehension of Engr. Ahize (who still remains at large) and all who oppose the indefinite military presence in the area.
The authors concluded the open letter by calling for an end to what they described as the ‘commercialization and criminalization’ of the struggle for justice and equity in the South-East, and using it as a pretext to commit unspeakable acts against the innocent people of Orsu L.G.A.
