Ude died on Thursday in Lagos state. The cultural enthusiast has since been buried, in line with Islamic rites, in his hometown in Anambra state.Tributes have been pouring in for the late elder statesman, with prominent Nigerians praising him for his philanthropy and humility.
According to a statement on Monday by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesperson, Buhari described Ude as “an advocate of religious tolerance”.The president also highlighted Ude’s “significant contributions to the creation of Anambra, Ebonyi and Delta States” and prayed for “to Allah to forgive his shortcomings and reward his good deeds with paradise”.“One of the most unostentatious philanthropists in the country who worked for humanity without making any noise about it. Doing goodness without bragging about it is one of the greatest virtues, and the late Abdulazeez Ude had passed such a test of humility with distinction,” Buhari was quoted as saying.
“We also have to give credit to the deceased because of his significant contributions to the creation of Anambra, Ebonyi and Delta States by being one of the signatories or advocates for that effort.“Apart from his philanthropic activities, the late Alhaji Ude was also an advocate of religious tolerance who didn’t discriminate against anyone because of religious differences.”
