A socio-cultural group under the aegis of Afo Youth Mobility, has tendered its unreserved apology to the Kenyang Mining Company over a statement it earlier released on the death of two siblings at Udege Development Area in the Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
It was gathered that the Chairman of Afo Youth Mobility, Dauda Kana, had earlier released the statement accusing the Kenyang Mining Company of negligence in the area which led to their untimely death.
However, in a press statement made available to Punch in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital on Thursday, Dauda Kana apologised to the Kenyang Mining Company, noting that thorough investigation into the matter later revealed that the company played no role in the circumstances which led to the death of the two siblings.
In the statement tagged, “Retraction and withdrawal of statement regarding the death of two siblings,” Kana noted that the retraction became necessary following the signed statement from the Udege-Odu Mining Committee on the late Osu Ajiri Alh. Dr. Halilu Bala Usman, the Osu Ajiri of Udege Chiefdom, declaring that the Kenyang Mining Company was not culpable.
The statement read in parts, “The Afo Youth Mobility, under the leadership of its Chairman and on behalf of its members, writes to formally retract and withdraw the statement previously issued regarding the unfortunate death of two siblings, at Udege Dev. Area, Nasarawa LGC, Nasarawa State.
“Our earlier position suggested that the sad incident was a direct result of the negligence of Kenyang Mining Company.
“However, following a thorough investigation and the release of a report by the Mining Committee set up by the late Osu Ajiri in conjunction with the leadership of the Udege -Odu host community and the father of the deceased children, it has been clearly established that Kenyang Mining Company bore no responsibility in the said incident.
“That this retraction becomes necessary because of the signed statement from Udege-Odu mining Committee, the Late Osu Ajiri Alh. Dr. Halilu Bala Usman, the Osu Ajiri of Udege Chiefdom, declaring that the Kenyang Mining Company was not culpable.
“In the light of this authoritative finding, we hereby publicly and unreservedly withdraw our earlier statement, and express our sincere apologies to the management and staff of Kenyang Mining Company for any distress or reputational damage the statement might have caused,” the statement read.
The Afo Youth Mobility chairman, Dauda Kana, added in the statement, “We recognise the value of your continued partnership with the community and express our commitment to fostering peaceful and constructive engagements going forward.”
