Police warn against protests over abduction of Kebbi schoolgirls

The Kebbi State Police Command has cautioned residents against organising or participating in any form of protest over the recent abduction of students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi, said the command had received credible intelligence indicating that some groups and non-governmental organisations were mobilising for demonstrations in reaction to the attack.

Kotarkoshi said the security atmosphere in the state remained fragile and unsuitable for protests or public gatherings, warning that such activities could escalate tension and undermine ongoing rescue operations.

“While the police acknowledge the public concern over the abduction, the command views any planned protest as misguided and counterproductive,” he said.

He explained that demonstrations at this time could obstruct the efforts of security agencies working to secure the safe release of the abducted students.

He reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to cooperate with security agencies by reporting any suspicious movements, individuals, or activities.
