No fewer than 45 Nigerians have been arrested and eight sentenced to prison for their involvement in the human trafficking of youths and teenagers in Ghana.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation, Chief Callistus Elozieuwa, to Diaspora Tales on Thursday.

Elozieuwa revealed this while reacting to the 10-year imprisonment of a notorious human trafficking ring leader, Chukwudi Nwachukwu, by a Ghanaian court.

The NIDO leader said, “About 45 of these human traffickers have been arrested in the past year, while eight of them have been jailed. They don’t only traffic girls for prostitution and modern slavery, they also traffic our boys for cybercrime.”

He also said some of the suspected criminals were being prosecuted in Nigeria, adding that, “We have others jailed in different regions.”

Elozieuwa noted that the lack of parental care had been responsible for the human trafficking of young Nigerians to neighbouring countries, including Ghana.
