The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued two minors abducted in Tilden Fulani, Toro Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.

According to him, on Thursday, October 23, 2025, one Aliyu Hamisu of Tilden Fulani reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters that his children — Halima Hamisu, 12, and Mohammed Aliyu Hamisu, 6 — were kidnapped by an unknown individual while waiting for their school bus along the main road in Tilden town.

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kisaba Rimamnyang, immediately swung into action, visited the scene, and initiated a criminal investigation protocol,” Wakil said.

He revealed that preliminary investigation showed an eyewitness saw a man on a tricycle pick up the children. Later, the suspected kidnapper contacted the family, demanding ₦50 million ransom through a foreign phone number to prevent tracing.

“After negotiation, he agreed to collect ₦1.2 million, to be delivered around Farmers Motors Junction, Bauchi,” Wakil added.

Acting on credible intelligence, detectives strategically cordoned off the area, leading to the arrest of the suspect while collecting the ransom.

Further investigation led the police to Anguwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State, where the two abducted children were safely rescued and reunited with their parents.

Wakil said the prime suspect was identified as Abdulkarim Tasiu, a relative of the victims, who confessed to the crime and cited long-standing grievances against his uncle as motive.

In a related development, Wakil through the statement said intelligence available to the Command on October 21, 2025, indicated an increase in motorcycle theft within the state.

He noted that the police, in collaboration with quasi-security outfits, launched an operation to combat the trend.

“During patrol, one Ibrahim Muhammad Rabiu of the Gwallaga area, Bauchi, was arrested in possession of a suspected stolen white Jincheng motorcycle valued at ₦100,000, belonging to one Mahmud Aliyu of Kobi Street, Bauchi,” it read.

The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime, and investigation is ongoing, after which he will be charged to court.

Also the command disclosed that on October 22, 2025, one Hafiz Yaro Ahmed of Nasarawa Jahun Street, Bauchi, reported that his son, Abdulrahman, took a black Haojue ladies’ motorcycle valued at ₦250,000 to UBA II along Murtala Muhammad Way, Bauchi, on October 21, 2025, but it was stolen from where it was parked in front of the bank.

The PPRO stated that upon receiving the report, detectives were deployed to trace and apprehend the culprit.

“During the investigation, one Abdulrahman Ibrahim of the Gwallaga area, Bauchi, was arrested in possession of the stolen motorcycle,” the statement said.

The suspect admitted to stealing the motorcycle, stating that he planned to dismantle it and sell it as scrap.

Wakil added that investigation is ongoing and the suspect will be profiled and charged to court accordingly.
