President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the Nigerian judiciary to remain steadfast, impartial, and incorruptible in the discharge of its duties, warning that the collapse of any society begins when those entrusted with interpreting its laws become compromised.

This was made known in a post on the official X handle of Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday, following the President’s remarks at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and National Judicial Institute (NJI) Workshop for Justices and Judges held in Abuja.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu said his administration remains committed to improving the welfare and working conditions of judicial officers, noting that recent remuneration reviews form part of broader efforts to strengthen judicial independence.

“We draw our moral distinction as a people from the judiciary, and we owe it the reverence and autonomy to remain the last sanctuary of our collective conscience,” the President stated.

He reaffirmed that the moral foundation of the Nigerian nation rests squarely on the integrity of its judicial system, adding that justice must remain a guiding principle for peace and progress.

The President also addressed growing public concerns about delays in the adjudication of high-profile corruption cases, contrasting them with the faster resolution of cybercrime matters.

He emphasised that the judiciary plays a pivotal role in preserving public trust and must demonstrate fairness, transparency, and efficiency in handling all cases, especially those involving economic and financial crimes.

President Tinubu further reiterated that his administration’s commitment to justice reform goes beyond remuneration, aiming to provide the judiciary with the autonomy and tools required to perform its constitutional responsibilities without interference.

The workshop, jointly organised by the EFCC and the National Judicial Institute, seeks to strengthen collaboration between the judiciary and anti-corruption agencies in tackling economic crimes, ensuring judicial integrity, and enhancing the efficiency of justice delivery across the country.
