Jigawa State Police Commissioner, Muhammad Dahiru, warned officers against compromise and actions that could damage the Force’s reputation.
The commissioner warned on Tuesday while delivering a mindset-changing lecture to all police prosecutors across the Command held at the CP AT Abdullahi Conference Hall, Jigawa State Police Headquarters.
Dwelling on his three key policing strategies: proactive policing, diligent investigation and prosecution, and community policing, CP Dahiru stressed that diligent investigation and prosecution are vital for linking police efforts to justice delivery.
“The bridge between successful operations and credible justice lies in diligent investigation and prosecution,” he said, highlighting the importance of this pillar.
He urged all prosecutors to uphold discipline, integrity, and ethical conduct. “Avoid compromise, bribery, or anything that can tarnish our image,” CP Dahiru warned firmly.
Also, the Commissioner emphasised strict adherence to the Police Act, Code of Conduct, and constitutional guidelines, reminding prosecutors that their work reflects on the entire criminal justice system.
“This initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Jigawa Police Command to strengthen institutional capacity, improve court performance, and build public trust in the justice system,” he declared.
Moreover, CP Dahiru stressed the importance of complete and well-documented case files, directing the prosecutors to work closely with Investigating Police Officers to ensure effective case presentation in court.
“Conduct regular case file reviews before arraignment to avoid technical pitfalls,” he advised, warning that lapses could weaken prosecutions.
On court attendance, CP Dahiru charged prosecutors to be prompt and consistent. “Ensure no case is dismissed due to absence or lack of preparation,” he stressed.
He equally highlighted the need for the timely presentation of witnesses and exhibits as key to winning cases.
However, the Commissioner called for stronger collaboration with the State Ministry of Justice. “Work closely with State Counsel for legal guidance and to avoid duplication or legal gaps,” he urged.
CP Dahiru reinforced the Command’s commitment to human rights compliance. “Justice must be fair, respect due process, and uphold citizens’ rights at all times,” he said.
