The Delhi Police have arrested a Nigerian, Benjamin Izuchukwu, 43, and an Ivorian, Coulibaly Mariam, 29, with 355 grammes of high-grade cocaine valued at about Rs 70 million (N1.5bn) in the international market.

The suspects were nabbed on September 10 in a raid on their Chattarpur, South Delhi residence, following a tip-off on their alleged drug distribution network.

According to The Indian Express, police recovered the cocaine along with an electronic weighing machine and packaging materials. The case is being investigated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Mehrauli Police Station.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, South, Ankit Chauhan, said Izuchukwu admitted during interrogation that he met another African national living in Dwarka in 2021, from whom he began procuring cocaine.

He reportedly bought the drug at Rs 8,000 per gram from one Joseph and resold it in Chattarpur and neighbouring areas at Rs 10,000 per gram with Mariam’s assistance.

Chauhan added that Izuchukwu confessed to recently purchasing 600 grammes of cocaine, of which 250 grammes had been sold, while the remaining 355 grammes were recovered during the raid.

Investigators revealed that the duo took orders via WhatsApp, received payments through UPI transfers to small retail outlets, and later collected the cash to mask the money trail. Mariam allegedly handled the physical delivery of the drugs to clients.
