The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano has handed over 450,000 capsules of Pregabalin to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for investigation.
NDLEA spokesperson, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, said on Thursday that the drugs were seized by a patrol team along the Kano–Hadejia Road. He explained that the 60 cartons of capsules were hidden inside a van without any documents or proof of ownership.
Maigatari added that the handover was done in line with an agreement signed between NDLEA and NAFDAC in November 2024. He said NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), ordered the transfer so NAFDAC can run further tests and decide the legal status of the drugs.
Receiving the consignment, the NAFDAC coordinator in Kano praised NDLEA for the cooperation and assured that the agency would work closely with them to stop the illegal circulation of controlled medicines.
