At the Annual General Meeting of the ongoing 67th Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference (NBA-AGC) in Enugu, NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, announced that Port Harcourt has been designated to host the 2026 NBA-AGC, “if all goes well.”
The announcement was met with a standing ovation, especially from members of the NBA Port Harcourt Branch, marking a moment of celebration for the city that was originally slated to host the 2025 conference. The 2025 AGC was relocated to Enugu following the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, with Enugu stepping in as the alternative host.
President Osigwe further emphasized the Association’s commitment to expanding access to justice by reaffirming the establishment of a Welfare Pro Bono Fund. He also confirmed that NBA branches will set up Pro Bono Help Desks, to be manned by NYSC members, as part of efforts to deepen the Association’s public service mandate.
On security, the NBA President dispelled concerns about insecurity in the South-East, noting that the conference has proceeded without any incidents or threats since its commencement. He expressed appreciation to the Enugu State Government for its support and commended the Conference Planning Committee (CPC) for their crucial contributions to the success of the 2025 AGC.
