The Federal Government has extended its condolences to the government and people of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam following the devastation caused by Typhoon Kajiki.

This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, in Abuja.

The ministry conveyed condolences to the victims and praised the efforts of emergency responders.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria extends its deepest condolences and heartfelt solidarity to the government and people of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, especially to the families who have lost their loved ones and those whose homes and livelihoods have been destroyed by the devastating impact of Typhoon Kajiki, which resulted in a landslide in Central Vietnam, causing significant loss of life, widespread displacement of communities and severe damage to properties and public infrastructure,” the statement read.

Citing media reports, the ministry said the disaster has so far claimed three lives, injured 13 people and damaged nearly 7,000 homes, while widespread flooding and power outages have affected central and northern regions, including the capital, Hanoi.

Nigeria commended the swift and coordinated efforts of Vietnamese authorities in leading emergency operations, carrying out evacuations and providing immediate relief to affected communities.

The ministry expressed confidence in the resilience of the Vietnamese people and their ability to rebuild, adding that Nigeria’s thoughts and prayers are with the nation during this difficult time.
