The Mid-West Bar Forum has formally conceded the office of the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for the 2026 General Elections to the South-West.
In a letter addressed to NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, the Forum stated that its decision was in line with Article 10(5) and Paragraph 4 of Part IV of the NBA Constitution (2021, as amended), which provide for zoning and rotation of national offices.
The Forum recalled that it produced the NBA President in 2020 through Mr. Olumide Akpata. Consequently, it resolved that the 2026 slot, zoned to the West (South-West and Mid-West), should go to the South-West in line with the sub-rotational arrangement.
As part of this concession, Mid-West aspirants, Mr. John Aikpokpo-Martins (former NBA 1st Vice President) and Mrs. Mandy Asagba (former NBA 3rd Vice President), have been directed to step down from the race. The Forum noted that it will be the turn of the Mid-West to produce a candidate for the presidency in 2032.
The leadership expressed confidence that this decision reflects the spirit of fairness, unity, and respect for the NBA Constitution, while wishing the Association a successful 2026 Annual General Conference in Enugu.
Signed:
Olukunle O. Edun, SAN (Chairman)
Kelly Ogbe (Secretary)
