Police operatives in Kogi State have confirmed the recovery of the corpse of a photojournalist, Ayo Aiyepeku, who was allegedly murdered by Oluwapelumi Adebayo, an officer with the Nigeria Correction Service in Lokoja, last Sunday.
The spokesman of the Command, William Aya, while confirming the recent development to journalists, said Aiyepeku’s body was found on Sunday evening at a location in zone eight in a bush near the JAMB office, Lokoja, after residents of the area raised an alarm of unpleasant odour as a result of the decomposing body of the late photographer.
He stated that the corpse has been deposited at Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja, assuring that a discreet investigation will help the Police uncover what truly happened.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer appealed to the victim’s family, colleagues, and the public to provide credible information to aid the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Government has assured the family of the late Ayo Aiyepeku that justice will be done for the Kogi photojournalist.
The state governor, Usman Ododo, in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, directed security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to unravel the incident surrounding Ayo Aiyepeku’s gruesome murder.
The statement assured that the government will leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice, ensuring that the perpetrators of this heinous act will not go unpunished.
The government also said an investigation into the mysterious circumstances surrounding the murder and the subsequent death of the prime suspect is ongoing, and urged the general public to support the ongoing investigations by volunteering credible information to law enforcement agencies.
The deceased’s family has appealed to police authorities and the Kogi State Government for justice.
Timothy Aiyepeku, the deceased’s elder brother, and his uncle, Ibikunle Jide, pleaded with Kogi State and security agencies to help unravel the mystery behind Ayobami’s murder and to punish the perpetrators.
Recall that Ayobami Aiyepeku was gruesomely murdered by Oluwapelumi Adebayo last Tuesday night, in an office near the government house in Lokoja.
Aiyepeku’s assailant had, after killing him, loaded his corpse into a deep freezer and disposed of it somewhere, later found to be zone eight in Lokoja.
