The Indian authorities have arrested two Nigerian nationals, Chukwu Umeh and Victor Onuwala, in separate raids for drug trafficking.
Indian media reported that 36-year-old Umeh was caught with drugs valued at over Rs 1 crore by the police in Delhi last Friday.
Umeh was apprehended alongside a 33-year-old Ugandan national, Humphrey Muwong, in the operation carried out under the Indian police’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, a policy of zero tolerance against drugs.
During the search, 700 grammes of high-quality smack/chitta were found on them, and their case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Investigations revealed that Umeh and Muwong were allegedly working on the instructions of another Nigerian, Dagri Jean Marc, currently operating in Africa.
“Marc had previously lived in India and established a network based in Tilak Nagar, facilitating the supply of narcotics through operatives who entered India under the pretence of studying at private universities,” said a police officer.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that another Nigerian, Onuwala, was earlier also caught with 22 kilogrammes of mephedrone worth Rs 11 crore in Evershine city, Vasai East, Maharashtra state, last Saturday.
According to the Times of India, Onwuala was also in possession of 48 grammes of cocaine and a fake passport.
