Federal High Court judges begin two-week Easter break Wednesday

Judges of the Federal High Court of Nigeria will commence their two-week Easter vacation on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

The holiday will run until Monday, April 28, 2025, with judicial activities resuming on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

This was disclosed in a circular signed by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, on Sunday, indicating that three key divisions—Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt—will remain open during the holiday to handle emergency cases only.

A press release issued by the Director of Information for the court, Dr Catherine Oby Christopher, on Sunday, stated, “The Federal High Court of Nigeria shall proceed on its Easter Vacation from Wednesday, April 16, 2025, to Monday, April 28, 2025.

“This is pursuant to the provisions of Order 46, Rule 4(c) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019 (as amended).

“The court resumes sitting on Tuesday, 29 April 2025, in all judicial divisions.

“During the vacation period, the Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt judicial divisions will remain open to the public only for cases of extreme urgency.

“Only matters relating to the enforcement of fundamental rights, arrest or release of vessels, and issues of dire national interest will be entertained by the vacation judges.”

The statement identified the designated vacation judges as follows -Abuja Division: Justices Emeka Nwite and Musa Sulaiman Liman

Lagos Division: Justices Akintayo Aluko and Isaac I. Dipeolu.

Port Harcourt Division: Justices Phoebe M. Ayua and Adamu T. Mohammed

Heads of divisions and vacation judges were instructed to refer matters requiring urgent attention to the Chief Judge.

Justice Tsoho extended his best wishes to his colleagues for a joyous Easter celebration in advance.
