The House of Representatives on Wednesday ended plenary without any mention of the state of emergency in Rivers State
President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday declared a state of emergency in Rivers following the protracted political crisis in the oil rich South-South state.
Many expected the emergency rule declaration to be part of deliberations at the green chamber on Wednesday, but the lawmakers ended plenary without raising the issue.
Before start of plenary on the day, however, two female members of the House engaged in a heated argument over the emergency rule declaration in Rivers State.
The reps Blessing Amadi from Rivers State and Marie Ebikake engaged in a shouting match just before the commencement of plenary
Plenary commenced after the incident, with the lawmakers resolving to investigate the conditional cash transfer programme of the Federal Government.
Honourable Abass Adigun, who moved the motion, reminded the House that in order to ensure effective and efficient delivery of the Programme in August 2024, nominees for the programme were informed that they will be paid the sum of N50,000 each for three months.
However, some nominees received payment months after information’s were completed and submitted to the portal, while others nominees have not, and that the National Cash Transfer Office has not responded to the payment of other nominees to date.
