A Yola High Court presided over by Justice Musa Usman, Tuesday, adjourned to 3rd April, 2025 a suite instituted by three traditional title holders in Adamawa emirate, challenging Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s decision to create Fufore emirate out of the Adamawa emirate council.
The suite which was filed by Alhaji Halilu Ahmed (Dujiman Adamawa), Alhaji Mustapha Dahiru (Yeriman Adamawa) and Alhaji Mustapha Ahmadu (Sarkin Noman Adamawa), had Adamawa state government as first respondent, Governor Fintiri as second respondent and the Attorney General/ Commissioner for Justice and the newly appointed Emir of Fufore as the third and fourth respondents.
At the last hearing of the suite before Tuesday sitting, the counsel to the plaintiffs, M.M Liman, brought an application to the court seeking for transfer of the case to the Court of Appeal for determination.
The application was rejected by the defendants’ lawyers who urged the court to strike out the case which they argued was not properly constituted and filed.
At the resumed hearing of the case Tuesday, the counsel to the plaintiff, M.M Liman, SAN, sought for adjournment to enable them study the counter affidavit and respond adequately. The request was not opposed by the respondent’s counsels, leading to the adjournment of the case to 3rd April, 2025, by the presiding judge.
Shedding more light in an interview with journalists after the court session, the counsel to the plaintiffs, Liman, said they took adjournment last time to enable the state to respond within 7 days but unfortunately they couldn’t meet up.
He said they have now applied properly under the rules of the court for extension of time and the application was granted.
